This is a more loosely-based than my previous ones. Free speech and censorship are heavily debated topics, but of outmost importance. Freedom of speech; just another way for assholes to insult others and get away with it? Censorship: preventing free speech or protecting the children? (Eg. censorship of curse words etc.)
I'll just start a discussion, and everyone is free to start a post with a new discussion on other news on free speech and censorship;
Some days ago, our local newspaper were forced to remove a series of comic strips, called Rocky, due to complaints from parents worried about its bad influence on their children, because of curse language and political/racial jokes. What are your thoughts on this? Will it in the end protect the children? Can't they just set up a warning that the respective comic can be unsuitable for children due to curse language? Won't those children hear curse language and "dark humour" sooner or later? Is it disrespecting the creators or respecting the parents freedom of speech?
I know this probably could be discussed in another section, e.g. 'gurls & sex education', but I'm looking for serious opinions, so it would be interesting to hear everyone's stand on this particular topic. I found two highly actual and interesting articles on the subject; 'Legalize Prostitution' and 'Sex Industry Benefits Society'. (The latter speaks about the sex industry in general - pornogrpahy, erotic books etc. - not just prostitution, but it does have good points.) No one is obligated to read any of them before replying, but if anyone cares to, it's more than welcomed. (Scroll down for links.) Both articles are in favour of legalizing prostitution, so if you know some good articles against the cause, feel free to post a link to it, and I'll include it in the first post! I can say as much that I'm for legalizing. Also, remember, the general rules of course still applies, so be sure to keep things civilized. Flaming/insulting/offending other members based on their opinions will not be tolerated, and such comments will be reported. With all that being said, let's start! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Articles in favour:Legalize ProstitutionSex Industry Benefits SocietyArticles against:(Links will be put up ASAP)
We already have an instulting thread, but now it's time to let everyone know how great you are. :]
Rules are simple; say POSITIVE things about YOURSELF.
So, let the ego boosting begin! >: D
I guess I'll start; I'm so COOL that I made a topic to BRAG about it. >B )
I just rememberd that moro once asked us in one of her PMs that we should try to think of ways to prevent spammers, so I thought it would be the best if we made a suggestion thread for it. Also, if we have other suggestions concerning our sections or other things, like, how to make the general forums more active, we can post that here, too. I'm not experienced with this, so I apologize if my suggestions are not good enough or too difficult. Anyways, I've seen other forums and website use the CAPTCHA routines, as well as e-mail confirmations (autoemail to the members, so they have to click a link to get their account activated, that way the have to use a valide e-mail address). I don't remember if dM already use those, it's so long ago since I registered, haha, but if he is not, maybe that's a good idea? That will only prevent spamboots, and it seems like many of the spammers are actual people... not sure how to deal with those, but.... I'll get back to that. Also, I'm sure we all are pretty tired of members (especially in the members intro forum) who don't follow the rules? What if we make it obligatory to view certain rules thread before posting in the forums? (Well, with we I really mean dM, lol.) Like, when they have registered, we redirect them to the general rules forum and the download/upload rules. I remember seeing that on another forum, and what they did, is that I got directed to a page with a box saying that the staff members wanted me to view a thread before continue posting. Of course, that dosen't mean they will read it, but that way, they don't have any excuses for not following the rules. If we did that in the other forums, too, especially members 411 pix. So if they click that forum, they will have to view a thread with the rules, so we don't have to keep posting warning posts, so if they don't follow the rules immidately, we just delete their posts. Well, if anything, I thought of maybe making a mal post, so that whenever a member introduce him/herself, I can post a welcome post with must-read links, like, the general rules and downlload/upload rules, as well as suggestions on where to post. Like; Want to discuss about you favorite artist? Check out the leisure and media section,. etc. Well, these are only suggestions, but... well, more than anything I'm tired of members not following the rules, so...
